Benefits of duplex printing

These days, everyone wants to save money and resources, and one of the ways to do this is to set the default on your printer to use duplex printing. By choosing duplex printing, you use both sides of each sheet of paper instead of just one, thereby using half the paper you would normally use. This is a great option for printing out rough drafts of papers, or pretty much anything you are going to use casually.

Duplex printing is also a great option for offices. Training manuals and general meeting handouts can easily be printed on two sides of paper. This not only saves money, but will likely be appreciated by employees who will have less paper to keep track of, or worse may wind up losing the second page of an important memo.

Of course the ease of setting up duplex printer will depend largely on your printer. For larger printers, such as those in a large office this should be relatively easy. The defaults can be changed in the printer settings, and when you go to print you double-sided print job will just be there — almost like magic! If you are using a more personal printer you can often still change the default, however you may be prompted to turn the paper over manually in the middle of your print job. In the long run, you will likely see the savings both in dollars, as well as the environmental impact you make with printing.

In a few cases you may still need to print on just one side of the paper, such as when you turn in a college paper, send a physical article or report out for professional submission, or if you are mailing a resume. In some cases, such as college papers, you may be able to talk to the recipient and see if they are okay with getting a double sided copy, but you should ask first.
