Health Care Reform is Pro-Life

The Catholic faith teaches that health care is a universal human right. In their pastoral letter, Health and Health Care, the United States bishops called for a “comprehensive health care system that will ensure a basic level of health care for all Americans.” And Pope John XXIII, in his encyclical Peace on Earth, listed health care among those basic rights which flow from the sanctity and dignity of human life.

Expanding health insurance coverage to the 46 million Americans who currently lack it is a necessary component of building a culture of life. It also provides an opportunity to reduce the number of abortions in the U.S., by making sure that families can afford the expense of pre- and postnatal care.

Catholics for Health Care Reform is intended to remind Catholic Americans of the moral urgency of health care reform. Here you'll find information about our "Health Care Reform is Pro-Life" ad campaign as well as ways to support the cause of health care for all.

The most affluent nation in the world cannot accept the suffering of so many of its citizens at the hands of a broken health care system that supports the outlandish wealth of powerful special interests.
